If the pain is severe, get help from a general practitioner. It goes without saying that if the pain is the result of an accident or injury, you must consult a doctor immediately.
Falling while sitting and hitting your back on the hard ground is probably the most common cause of tailbone pain. It mostly happens during contact sports that can have a detrimental effect on your tailbone. Your doctor may prescribe a short course of painkillers. Over-the-counter medications may also be appropriate. Be sure to talk with your doctor about how often you should take a painkiller.
Although they may be slow to heal, the majority of coccyx injuries can be managed with cautious treatment. Heat is another excellent therapy to heal a bruised tailbone faster at home. The heat will open up the blood vessels, allowing blood to flow freely into the injured area during your recovery.

Do your best to get up often, stretch and take a short walk. Better yet, find yourself a softer, more comfortable place to sit or use a cushioned seat.
Unfortunately, it can also increase the bruised tailbone pain, making you stiff and limiting your mobility. Ice can also be applied later during your recovery to reduce inflammation, numb the area, and relieve pain. When using ice therapy, wrap an ice pack in a tea towel and place it on your tailbone. Then, remove it for at least ten minutes to allow your body to heal. Treatment may include stronger prescription painkillers, physiotherapy, steroid or nerve-block injections, or surgery in more severe cases. The general recovery time for a broken coccyx is between 6 to 12 weeks.
